Bishop AlexanderFor the Feast day of The Holy Nativity of our Lord Monastery, His Grace, Bishop Alexander will be offering a keynote address on the role of the "spiritual Father" in Orthodoxy.

Bishop Alexander has written extensively on St. Symeon the New Theologian who was instructed almost exclusively by his own abbot and spiritual father, Symeon the Studite. Their unique relationship brings to mind many questions for Orthodox Christians: Having a spiritual father is not common, but is it necessary? Is the spiritual father the same as one's father-confessor? Is it appropriate for non-monastics to seek out this kind of relationship?

Bishop Alexander will address these questions as well as share his own thoughts on the role of the "spiritual father" for Orthodox Christians today.
