We will be offering special retreats, theme weekends, special events, community work days, various courses, and a regular days of worship, some of which will be open to the public throughout the course of the year.

Nativity IconThe sisters of Nativity Monastery invite you to join us for our Lenten Retreat to be held at The Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ Monastery on Saturday, March 11, 2017.

We also welcome our Guest Speaker: Priest Rodney Torbic – Parish Priest of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Carmichaels, Pennsylvania.

Schedule of Events (all times are approximate):

8:30 - Prayers before communion and hours
9:00 - Divine Liturgy      
10:30am - Continental Breakfast
11:00am - First Session - Helpful practices for prayer   
12:30pm - Break
12:45pm - Lunch/Reception at the Retreat Center
1:30pm - Second Session - The immeasurable value of the Jesus Prayer in our lives
3:00 - Questions
4:00pm - Vespers

  • First Talk - An extensive of review of thoughts regarding prayer. Practices known to be helpful in our relationship with God.
  • Second Talk - The immeasurable value of the  Jesus Prayer in our lives. Sharing of thoughts on the use of this prayer in different circumstances of life.
  • Prayer strengthens and improves our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and enables us to experience Him in daily life.

Fr Rodney TorbicFr. Rodney Torbic was born and raised as a parishioner of the St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church in Aliquippa, PA. He had a “first life” working in criminal justice for thirty years for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Nineteen of those years he was a hearing examiner for the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole. For many years he served as a hearing examiner by day and a student by night. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Geneva College (1965) and Master’s Degree in Social Work from West Virginia University (1967). He completed the Deaconate training course by the OCA Diocese of Pittsburgh in 1980. His studies continued in theology at Duquesne University, where he earned a Masters of Arts in 1986 in the Theology Program (Pastoral Ministry-Prison Ministry). He was ordained a deacon in 1987 and a priest in 1998. He completed his Doctorate in Ministry at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in 2001. He has served as parish priest of the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels, PA since 1999. Fr. Rodney is a prolific writer and has been contributing articles to the Path of Orthodoxy and the American Srbobran, as well as other publications.
